Bio-ethanol fuel is a renewable resource usually produced from sugarcane or grains. Different sources of bio-ethanol have different effects on our economy and our environment, and continued development is helping to refine the process of growing and denaturing this sustainable fuel.
While we often restrict discussion of bio-fuels to the topic of transportation, using bio-ethanol domestically in place of a traditional fireplace offers some remarkable benefits. The bio-ethanol used in a Buschbeck fireplace produces only water vapor and a measure of carbon dioxide roughly equal to the amount produce by a human being. No residue is left in the burner device, no soot is deposited in the surrounding area, and no harmful particles or carcinogens are lifted into the atmosphere. This provides for the cleanest possible air quality, along with the charm and warmth of an open flame.
Buschbeck bio-ethanol fireplace designs have been tested by TÜV Rheinland according to standard DIN 4734, which includes temperature and exhaust emissions of the burner, and the stability of each fireplace unit.
Each Buschbeck design features a low center of gravity which, coupled to exceptional build quality, ensures that knocking into the fireplace will not cause it to topple or spill fluid.
The fuel reservoir is made from a single, pressed sheet of stainless steel, and has a sealed, screwed-down stainless steel lid. A secondary safety pan welded to the outside further prevents leaks and spills during the refueling process.
Above the fuel reservoir, the burner port passes through a pressed ceramic fibre section with a flame protection griddle. This section is filled with stainless steel wool to prevent deflagration inside the combustion box, (an ignition of fuel caused by heat transfer through the materials of the burner).
